The Spirit of Country Week PDF Print E-mail

(last updated 19 January 2012)

Country Week celebrated its 64th year in 2011 and continues to be an opportunity for friends, family and cricket lovers to travel to Brisbane to enjoy four days of cricket over various grades.

Country Week is played 27-30 December each year at Marchant Park Chermside with Kianawah Park Tingalpa used as an alternative venue on wet days.

All games are 50 over one day affairs (subject to weather) with many of the Ford Ranger Cup rules applying to competition play.

In recent years sides from Glen Innes, Townsville, Murgon, Kingaroy, Taree, Blackbutt, Valentine Plains, Brisbane Valley, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, composite overseas sides, various Brisbane sides and the Queensland under 17s have played in the annual competition.

Whilst the cricket is extremely competitive it does provide a more relaxed atmosphere than normal Saturday fixtures. That said, in recent years a number of current and former Queensland players have played in the competition such as Shane Watson and Alastair McDermott.

In 2006 and 2007 Radford were fortunate enough to have former Sheffield Shield player Scott Williams make a number of guest appearances both on and off the field.

In 2008 we snared another former Sheffield Shield player and current Toombul first grade player, Gavin Fitness for a number of games.

Despite two washout years in 2009 and 2010 the competition bounced back strongly in 2011.
