SCOTT WILLIAMS
In 2006 Scott Williams debuted for Radford. Scott played again in 2007.
He played his district cricket for Toombul being a member of two premiership winning sides in first grade.
He was a Queensland under age player from under 12s to Colts and was also granted an Australian Cricket academy scholarship in 1992/93.
He debuted as a 20 year old for Queensland in the 1991/92 season playing his first game against Tasmania at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. His first first class wicket was David Boon (caught Healy). He played four first class games that season scoring 79 runs @ 19.75 and taking 10 wickets @ 45.10. He notably played two one day matches against the West Indies that season taking 6/54 against same including the scalps of Lara, Richardson and Arthurton.
A combination of issues including the wealth of Queensland fast bowling stocks led him to Tasmania in the 1995/96 having been a squad member and second X1 / QAS player for Queensland up until his departure.
In 1994 and 1995 he also played Lancashire League for Todmorden and Colne respectively being the club pro in both years. In 1996 he played in the Liverpool Littlewoods league as the club pro for St Helens Recs.
Opportunities again were limited in Tasmania and he did not play first class cricket for same and returned to Queensland in 1999/2000.
In 2009/10 he was captain coach of Surfers Paradise in the Gold Coast competition.
GAVIN FITNESS
In 2008 Gavin Fitness debuted for Radford.
He has played his district cricket for Valley, Sandgate-Redcliffe, Sunshine Coast and Toombul. He began his 1st grade career in 1988 at Sandgate Redcliffe after being lured to the club by Australian leg spinner, Trevor Hohns. It was to be a fruitful move as they achieved the club's first ever premiership in 1997/98 which was followed up by a further four 1st grade premierships in the next six years. At the conclusion of 2004/05 season, he made the selfless decision to leave Sandgate-Redcliffe and join former Zimbabwean international, Eddo Brandes at the Sunshine Coast. In his first season there they won their first and only 1st grade premiership. In 2008/09 perhaps his greatest challenge was taken on as his took up a playing / coaching role at Toombul who for a variety of reasons, had been lingering at the bottom of the first grade table for many years. In the initial season they improved dramatically finishing mid table and by 2009/10 were Minor Premiers.
His record of six 1st grade premierships is unlikely to be surpassed. He remains the highest first grade scorer for Sandgate-Redcliffe with a total of 7,068 runs in 227 games averaging 36.62.
He debuted for Queensland in the 1994/95 season replacing Wade Seccombe after the latter heavily collided with Dirk Tazelaar in a shield match. He played the last three matches leading up to the famous 1994/95 victory at the Gabba scoring 100 runs at 25.00 and taking ten catches and one stumping. He was cruelly denied a place in the Shield final as Seccombe returned from injury and subsequently played out an immensely successful career as the number one keeper with the Bulls. He never played the longer form of the game with the Bulls again. He also played four Mercantile Mutual Cup matches for Queensland between 1993 and 2001. Of note also he played a number of one off tour matches for Queensland against West Indies (1995), Transvaal (1997) and New South Wales (1999).
As history will show Gavin was entrenched as Queensland's number two keeper over a extended period of time. It is arguable that he ought to have been selected as a batsman at various stages of his career as he was a prolific run scorer at first grade level. He represented Queensland Second X1 between 1994 and 1997 and Queensland Academy of Sport between 1997 and 2001. He was also selected for Queensland City Origin in 2000.
Off the field he has recently taken on the role of player manager for up and coming Bulls batsman, Chris Lynn.
