Until 2004 an official Radford side had never existed.
Various district sides from surrounding Harrisville / Warrill View and Peak Crossing had come and gone but none had stood the test of time.
Nearby Harrisville was in the Boonah competition up until 2000 and played their home games at Warrill View at the field across the road from the general store.
Nearby Peak Crossing it is believed also played competitive cricket at the field across the road from the hotel which incidentally was where Fassifern rugby league (then called Peak Crossing / Harrisville) began in the 1970’s before moving to Hayes Oval in Harrisville.
In the voids, local players were forced to travel to Boonah or Ipswich to play in organised competitions.
The unofficial premier cricket ground at Radford was for many years the front yard of the main property at Inverclyde (McInnes property) where many a family dispute was settled or ego crushed. A dusty deck, it was prone to favoring the bowlers due to a distinct lack of interest by anyone to roll it. One Christmas, as the older generations of the McInnes clan were dispatching the younger generation of Callum and Co to all nearby paddocks, it was mooted that perhaps we should join forces one Country Week now that the kids were all growing up.
And so it began in 2004 at Marchant Park Chermside with a side including three players with Radford backgrounds. By round two 2005 the figure had grown to six and by round three 2007 the figure was up to eight.
Along the way the families of Mathias, Collet and Cornish have equally contributed and participated in Country Week and have become an integral social and playing ingredient to our yearly celebration at Marchant Park. In recent years the Mathias and McInnes families have had family reunions during the week further adding to the wonderful atmosphere that has evolved.
